So today, we've got an exciting post about Airbnb, one of the greatest examples of the Sharing Economy, from expat, travel blogger and all-round champion Christina Gmyr. She's here to guide you through being an Airbnb pro so you too can enjoy top-notch travel for cheap.
Let's take a gander at the process:
- Step 1: Search for your preferred location, select if you'd like to rent an entire apartment, a private room, or a shared room, and enter your price range.
- Step 2: Fall in love with someone's apartment, personal description, and reviews (Always use the reviews to gauge the true nature of the apartment!)
- Step 3: Submit questions to the owner if you have any, and wait for answers, which usually come within 24 hours.
- Step 4: Submit payment via Airbnb to confirm your reservation. Airbnb will refund your money if the host changes anything, but I've personally never had this happen!
Although various rooms are available on Airbnb for as little as $8 dollars all the way up to $1000, my preferred stays tend to be between $30-80 USD per night, which is certainly more expensive than most hostels, but that usually gets you a supremely unique experience, a peek into local living, amazing host recommendations, and a better night's sleep than you'd ever get in a hostel dorm bed. Not to mention, you're supporting the local economy from the roots!
